Yes, Astros expectations were rock bottom going into this season…but as the saying goes “If it wasn’t for bad luck, sometimes you wonder if they’d have any luck at all.” Let’s just take a look so far.
Here are their big name free agent signings… Dexter Fowler, Scott Feldman, Matt Albers & Chad Qualls. Fowler storms out of the gate his 1st 3 or 4 games & immediately gets a stomach virus, misses games, ruins his momentum & he hasn’t been the same since.
Feldman & Albers are incredible to start the year. Now they’re both on the DL. Qualls has been healthy. Unfortunately, he’s also been awful.
Jesse Crain, the other big bullpen add, hasn’t thrown a pitch & is still recovering from arm issues.
The one sure hope for the future we thought we’d see this year, George Springer, finally gets called up. Ooops… he’s had 2 extra base hits in his 1st 47 at bats. As of Monday, he’s hitting .170 with 3 errors.
Number 1 overall pick & a supposed lock cinch to be in the rotation next year, Mark Appel, has arm problems & has been moved from high A ball all the way down to extended Spring Training.
Number 1 overall pick & top 5 minor league rated phenom Carlos Correa missed this past weekend with arm trouble after a solid start.
Meanwhile, absolutely none of the young borderline position players have had a decent start or let us even dream of a future.
Perhaps the best luck the Astros have actually had this year is that most people can’t see this team, thanks to CSNH. Maybe if you don’t see them, they don’t really exist.
